I approached this book with scepticism, as I've fallen victim to many diet fads. The author gives very easy to read information and cites her sources for further reading.

This is a great resource on intermittent fasting. The author included all your questions, and some you didn't think to ask. From how to do it and the different methods, her journey, losing the diet mentality, the science of it all, and testimonials of those it's worked for.

I read the entire book last night and it is just what I needed to get my head back in the game after almost two years of Fast-5. I highlighted this sentence, because I think it’s good for all IFers to remember: “Avoid gorging. Strive to eat as though you had not fasted.” That’s so powerful! Also, the concept of waiting for hunger even after our window has opened is great. I will be adding these reminders to my daily fasting practice. Thanks, Rachel!

I knew about IF for a few years but never wanted to try it out. I was worried that I will affect my body in a negative way and it will go into "starvation mode". December I saw Just Eat and thought let me just buy it and read it because I love supporting local authors. I started reading and could not put down your book. It was an easy, honest and very real read. I jumped right into doing IF.

Just Eat is an amazing book. There is so much I never really knew about the benefits of intermittent fasting. One doesn't even have to follow it daily and can do it a few days a week. So many struggle with weight loss and following diet plans. Here they can literally eat and not feel guilty for eating certain foods. A very well written Book.

I lost weight tremendously and I would admit that I loved it. I gained more confidence. I went shopping with other girls on not so busy days and had the liberty of picking different clothes from different sections in ‘normal’ sizes and designs like other girls my age. No more hiding the ‘meat’! It was time to expose the beauty from within which was also now on the outside.

My feet stopped swelling at night. My wedding ring is loose, and twirls all around my finger now. The back pain I would experience in the middle of the night is gone. My face is not as oily as it once was, and my adult acne is reduced to one lone blemish on occasion. My heels aren’t as dry and cracked as they once were. My mood is improved, and my depression is gone. That was a huge one, as I was on antidepressants for over ten years.

IF has opened the door for me to continue my own personal growth and development. I am learning to work on self-acceptance, self-care, self-love, and validating myself without the need for other people’s approval. I feel freed from my emotional eating habits, and am learning to accept my feelings and work through them by journaling, meditation and reading uplifting motivational books. IF has changed my relationship with food and it has opened the door for a whole new way of life for me. I feel empowered with the knowledge that I CAN make changes in my life regardless of the naysayers!

I can eat anything I want, and though knowing that, my body has somehow tuned itself to clean eating most of the time. And even though I started with minimal exercise, I have grown to enjoy jogging again and have the drive and energy to train at least four times a week. I have a new-found body confidence and healthy outlook in life.
What is Intermittent Fasting (IF)?
IF is not a conventional diet but rather an easy lifestyle where one can simply alternate periods of eating (open window) and periods of not eating (closed window). One can still eat normal amounts of food, but in a smaller time frame known as your open window. It is simply a plan which guides you as to when you should eat and when you should not eat. Generally you will be choosing the times of when to eat and to stop eating, thus giving your body a chance to tap into its stored fat for fuel.
What are the benefits of Intermittent Fasting?
Intermittent fasting is a Health and Wellness Lifestyle with the side effects of Weight Loss. However, there are a many potential benefits beyond this, some of which have been known since ancient times. Some of the possible health benefits of intermittent fasting include: weight and body fat loss, increased fat burning, lowered blood insulin and sugar levels, improves insulin sensitivity, improves mental clarity and concentration, increased energy, increased human growth hormones, activation of cellular cleansing by stimulating autophagy and reduction of body inflammations.
Is it OK to exercise while fasting?
Absolutely. In fact, combining intermittent fasting with exercise can produce superior changes in the body. There is a lot of research that supports fasted exercises to maximize fat burning potential. It has been proven to be very beneficial for fat burning because the glycogen stores are depleted while you fasting and so the body is forced to burn fat as energy.
How IF Affects Your Cells and Hormones?
When you fast, several things happen in your body on the cellular and molecular level. For example, your body adjusts hormone levels to make stored body fat more accessible. Your cells also initiate important repair processes and change the expression of genes. These changes in hormone levels, cell function and gene expression are responsible for the health benefits of intermittent fasting. How long can i fast for and what can I drink during the fast?
There are several different ways of doing intermittent fasting — all of which involve splitting the hours into eating and fasting periods. During your fasting period you can drink water, coffee tea and other non-caloric beverages. Always remember that stimulating insulin from the pancreas will stop the fat burn or break the fast
